The YMCA has been a cornerstone of the Eugene Oregon community since its establishment in 1887. In 1955, the YMCA's Patterson Building became a central fixture of the city, serving as a hub for community engagement for decades. However, in recent years, it became clear the Y needed a larger facility with adequate parking to accommodate under served program, membership, and childcare requirements in Lane County. The Service Family Foundation worked closely with the YMCA board and capital campaign committees to support the effort to raise the money needed to build its new 75,000 square foot facility.
Bill and Michelle personally (with commitments later assumed by the Foundation) provided much of the early seed money that helped to successfully raise over $47 million. The success of the capital campaign is the largest in Lane County excluding those associated with the university of Oregon or Riverbend Hospital. The construction of the state-of-the-art facility opened to the public in December 2023 and has been designed to meet the evolving needs of Lane County well into the future.
Other recent grants to organizations within Lane County include:
ShelterCare, Whitebird, Positive Community Kitchen, AIV Alliance, CASA of Lane County, Supported Community Shelters, and Sponsors
